My Dream 35mm
Here’s a quick story about how we ended up here.
One morning, I decided that today was the day. After months of dreaming about it, I finally took the plunge and left our city and area.
Yeah I used AI to read through my Blog and make ‘‘Friendly’’ changes and I don’t talk like that. I didn’t take the ‘‘plunge’’ I drove a fucking hour to go thrifting..
Anyways I wanted to go somewhere other than our city to thrift somewhere an hour or two away.
We all got up, got ready, and headed to Mount Carmel, Illinois.
I found about 5 thrift stores for us to go to that day and we managed to hit all of them. A few we didn’t have a ton of luck, a couple point and shoot cameras and one store that did not have a single thing.
Delilah actually ended up finding a Polaroid SX-70 in amazing condition for only $12
This was a super cool find and I was very happy with it. I am really excited to get the film for it and test it out. $30 a pack of film with 8 photos is going to be tough though.
We also had been looking for things for a photoshoot idea I came up with. I want and am going to start doing film photoshoots and call them 95% Film Sessions.
So we had a pretty good day finding all of the cool stuff like a brass candle holder, a really awesome looking bottle with a cork and wine glasses. Oh we also found some really cool fabric to user too, the plan is a sunset picnic and providing an actual picnic and photoing it with film.
So we eventually come back home. We need milk for Elijah and I am driving around trying to find our Neighborhood Walmart close to home using backroads and I ended up way off. I decided oh well I will just grab milk from a different store that I have accidentally ended up close to. It’s right across the street from a Goodwill we sometimes go to. We thought hey let’s hit one more store before going home. I didn’t even think it was open but driving by we noticed people walking around.
Walking in they had a glass case near the register and normally I will do a Quick Look before going to the back to the electronic and appliance section. I noticed a blue bag that honestly looked like a book bag and told my wife I am going to ask what is in that before we leave. I head to the back and I end up finding a point and shoot (I can’t remember what kind at the moment) a Minolta lens and surprising a nice Minolta SLR. A guy walked up and was like man I was debating getting that lens because it’s super cheap online so won’t have much of a resell value. He showed me an Olympic point and shoot which is very sought for and I was so happy for him.
It’s not often I get interactions with people like that so seeing someone else excited for their find made me happy. I walk around more looking and a guy that works there seen I had the Minolta and asked if I seen the camera in the case. I replied NO, he asked if I wanted to see it. We get to the glass case and he pulls out the blue bag, the size of this bag again I assumed a smaller book bag and as he is opening it I am thinking its a film recording camera.
Once the bag was open I had a top view and already knew what I was looking at ( I did'n’t know the extent). Canon AE-1 Program, I have been wanting this film camera for years.
It has two lenses, the warranty card from the 1980’s and looks to have never been used. Ever. It had a roll of film in it that had never been used or properly loaded. I am currently waiting for it to be developed and come back so I can scan and process them!
Finally for the first time I also ordered Kodak Gold 200 that isn’t expired and I am currently putting my first roll of it through the AE-1. The roll I shot that came in it was more than likely expired so I possibly shot it incorrectly it was ISO 400 film I shot metering for 200 ISO.
I started shooting this roll this morning and will be sending off the first roll probably Monday and I will update once everything is back and scanning. I am also trying my best to put together a really good Youtube video for this too.
Thank you for reading! I can not wait to update everyone and see how everything turns out. I will also have another Blog when I get the expired roll back; fingers crossed some things are recoverable. Oh also I doin’t know how I get so lucky but of course the first shot in this roll of Kodak I shot it metered wrong. Looking forward to that one.
