Scanning Film, With a Camera
So it has been over a year since completing my first roll of film in years, and it has been over 6 months since scanning my first roll of film.
So I would like to start by saying that I have 4 rolls that I am waiting on their return to scan them and update the website with not only a new blog post, some YouTube Videos, a Lomography review, and also adding to the website the option of film scanning.
Film scanning has been an idea I have had for a long time but it is also something I have wanted to practice and get better at and I think that now is that time to finally do so.
So camera scanning is probably my favorite thing compared to the Epson V550 I was using. Using my camera and a macro lens give so much more detail and contrast with the film negatives. It has been a learning experience and I have done my research on every little possible thing.
I am ‘‘scanning’’ using the Sony A7RV Camera Body and the Sony 90mm f/2.8 G Master OSS Macro Lens.
Again the borders help wrap the photos up for me and I love it!
I am excited to get to be more in detail with the processing portion of these. I have been spending all my time working on the technique of scanning this way and editing them and converting in Lightroom, but like I said once these rolls come in I will be using my time to record more of what I am doing. Apple Log Color Grading has been something I am practicing too.
I know I am mostly writing these for myself, but still I am very excited to be where I am with the process and also being able to bring better quality to old film negatives. I scanned a film negative from when I was between 3 and 5 years old. Now being almost 32 it’s just really fucking badass to be able to do something like that.
Also with upcoming film sessions I can’t wait to record the process of those to include for the couples that are having them done. Going to be a pretty busy and awesome next couple of months. The end goal though is to be able to develop and process everything on my own but that is all going to require money that I can’t make appear from nowhere so in time.
It would be so cool, especially with 120 format to go out and shoot some photos early in the day and come home to process everything and see those photos on film that day. I am going to eventually run out of damn memory haha.
Anyways I just wanted to get on here and write something. I have not update the website in a few weeks and I really need to find the time to do so. Not writing much has been kind of trash, but I have been fighting myself with my photography a lot this month and have not had anything good to say on here till now. I will have more updates soon though. Thank you for reading!
